Believe me, the last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose. At this point you have probably thrown all the tricks at your body and it is ready for anything. The last 10 pounds will take discipline, a strict diet, and very high intensity training. You will need to count every calorie in and calorie out. Some days you might even feel a little depleted but no one has ever gotten to their ultimate goal weight and composition without sacrifice. Truth be told; this may be one of the hardest journeys you have ever embarked on.
First, be honest about your weight goals. Are you being unrealistic? Are your goals set to a point you can’t attain or maintain once you get there? Have you done the look test? Often times we are set on an arbitrary number when the proof is in the mirror. If your body composition is there; who cares about the weight? Once you have made the assessments and feel you still need to dispose of the last 5-10 pounds, here is what it takes.
Discipline: When you first started losing weight it was easy to cheat a little and still see pounds shed away. This is because you had room to cheat. Not anymore! Now that you only have 5-10 pounds to lose, cheating a little will cause you to stagnate. Don’t do it. Don’t let outside influences talk you into trying the cake, pie, or ice cream. A few more weeks of discipline and you’ll be happy you passed on the sweets.
Strict Diet: Chances are you are underestimating what you are eating and drinking. Don’t guess the amount of calories in your meal as being 50 calories off here and there won’t cut it. 50 calories here and there throughout the day can add 150-250 calories to your day. Those high calorie juices, sodas, and energy drinks are detrimental to your pound shed. You will need to be diligent about counting calories and measuring portion sizes… Seriously! I know it sounds undoable but it’s the only way to shed the last pounds. Let me reiterate; This Will Not Be Easy!
Shave Fat: Fat has more calories than protein and carbohydrates. Limit fats by cutting out cooking oil, cheese, salad dressing, and fatty meats. Take the fat you shaved to get to the last 10 pounds and shave it more.
High Intensity Training: It is time to ramp up your training. If you have been walking, try to walk your same route much faster. If you are a jogger, add a few sprints along the way. If you are a sprinter, add more repetitions to your set. Don’t be afraid to add in a few extra burpees, pushups, squat jumps, sit ups, lunges, mountain climbers, and pull-ups to your workout. Again, what got you to the last 10 pounds won’t work anymore. You have to add the extra work or you will stay idle.
It is very possible that you read this article because you are in a rut. You are having problems shedding the last 5-10 pounds and all your friends and Google searches aren’t helping. Losing those last pounds is simple but not easy. You won’t regret all the hard work and dedication, once you get there. Good luck and please tell us if this article helps.
