Quick Fact: Calories

Know your calorie intake and outputDid you know 3,500 calories equals 1 pound? If you want to lose weight then start keeping track of your calories. Your calories out should be more than your calories in. Burn more than you eat.

For example: If I consume 2,000 calories in a day and then burn 2,500 that same day, I have created a deficit of 500 calories.

7 days at a 500 calorie deficit a day = 3,500 calorie deficit in a week.

That 3,500 calories = 1 pound.

You can calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) in order to get an estimate of the average calories you burn in a day.

What Is BMR?

What is Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR? BMR is the number of calories you would burn if you just laid in bed all day. Why is this important to know? If you know how many calories you burn just living, you will be able to calculate how many calories you need per day in order to maintain or adjust your body weight.

It is worthless to embark on a weight loss, gain, or maintenance plan without knowing your daily calorie needs. Read more
